June 30 would mark the last day for A.K. Bhalla as DGFT as he is set to embark upon his new journey as Power Secretary replacing retiring P.K. Pujari. IAS-1984 batch officer from Assam-Meghalaya cadre, Mr. Bhalla has been serving DGFT office for less than a year by now and is the 4th such officer to be shifted to other departments in less than 4 years. This reshuffle has come at crucial time when almost all the government departments esp. under Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Commerce are gearing up for the major transition in tax law, GST, in India. However, under his supervision o/o DGFT seem to have made all necessary pre-launch preparation for GST to help whole exporter-importer community of India during this change. New name for the DGFT position is soon to be announced.
